Three Months
Will three months of giving up social media turn into three months of giving up eating out?
I started off this new blog with a challenge: give up social media for three months. It’s almost over (got another month left), and here’s where I’ve landed. I think I will be back on social media, but not anywhere near the way I was before. Before, I had apps open all day, notifications and all—checking every day. I think, going forward, that won’t be the case anymore. I’ll probably sign in once a week or so to check in on things (I really have missed some aspects of social media), then sign out for the rest of the week. These three months have shown me how much more calmer things can be, how less distracted I can be (though I’m still distracted by other things, just not social media), and how much I don’t really need social media every day.
I like three months for challenges! And so here’s my next one (maybe I’ll keep three month challenges up?): No eating out.
Starting August 1st (yes, before I finish this last challenge).
It’s no secret that I’m a bigger guy; always have been. Well, not always—always. I’ve had bouts of healthy times where I feel like my weight and my health were much better. I’ve been wanting to do something about it for a while now, but honestly I know how many things start off good-intentioned that are doomed for failure. But last week I did a little journal-searching and I found a common thread: I wasn’t eating out.
So, as an experiment I’m going to give up eating at a place that would be considered a “company”, and see what happens. Coffee at Starbucks is okay. A beer with friends is fine. Just no eating at these places.
I don’t eat out a lot now, and I’d like to think that I usually choose healthier places most-of-the-time. But there are times when I don’t, and I really think it’s those times that really end up hurting me long-term, but we will see. I’m also obviously going to try and attempt to start eating healthier at home too, but no guarantees here. Hopefully this challenge will help feed energy into an effort at-home as well, but I’m not going to stress over it—maybe in three months!
I’m just curious how much eating-out has an effect on my weight and ultimately my health and even my performance on the court. Let’s see what three months will tell.
